1. an installation uses the unique layout of the 3-dimensional space available around you in order to make an artwork available for mass amounts of people to view. 2. I think the finished project was unique and very eye catching. also, i believe that it made many of the spectators think critically as the meaning of the installation might not have been immediately apparent. 3. if this was my personal project, i would have tried to make the structural integrity of the tape figures more sturdy, although it was very hard to do this with the group as multiple different people made each one of the tape sculptures and supplies were very limited. 4. everybody in our group played multiple roles in participating, i, for example was a model for the neutral tape figure but i also helped wrap other people to create their figures as well as gather some of the packaging tape that we used. in progress: Finished:

1. During the coarse of this class, i used many different tool that helped me complete my work in a more professional manner than if i were to use only my hands. For example, during the paper mache project the cardboard base for the mustache on my lorax was very hard to cut out due t the fine details of the individual bits of fur, so, i used an exacto knife to get into the small creases and complete the task. Another tool which came in great use was the wheel which i used when creating my pit fire piece. without the wheel my piece would not be able to be even or as symmetrically balanced as it was. 2. At the beginning of the semester i did not fully understand the importance of using tools while creating my pieces. However, as it went on and i gained experience, i began to realize that many tasks are very hard to complete using only your hands and that sometimes you need a specialized tool in order to take your piece to the next level. Not only did my growth occur in learning the importance of tool but also my skill sets relating to these tools grew. at the beginning of the semester i was quite unsure of using to different clay tools but as i made ore pieces i learned how to use them and the variety of ways in which they could be used. 3. My favorite material that i used this year was the paper mache. i think that working with it provided a totally unique experience that was very different from the other materials that we used. i liked working with the paper mache because it was so interesting that you could use almost any materials you wanted for the base of your project and which allowed the possibility of the shapes you could make to be virtually endless. I also think that the materials you use in making a paper mache piece are common household goods because you always have access to them so you could make piece anytime you wanted. 1. my trey set could be used for a cheese and cracker appetizer dish. the smaller dish being for a soft cheese and the larger for the cracker.
2. I came up with this idea because i saw the shape of the molds i used and thought they were very unique due to the curved edges. 3. i first covered my molds in a layer of plastic wrap, then used a slab of clay and placed them into it being careful not to press too hard and crack the clay, once then were semi-dry i carved the fish designs into the sides with and exacto knife and fired them with the alternating blue and yellow glazes. In Progress: 1. I based my paper mache project off of the lorax so i decided to stick with the same thing and make the tile based off of the movie too. 2. i rolled the clay into a tablet and shaped it using the circle stencil and cut the edges on a diagonal angle to give it a better shape. 1. first i rolled the clay into a tablet, then i cut it into a smaller piece using the circle stencil and shaped it by cutting the edges on a diagonal angle. after painting over the leather-hard clay with black paint, i used my sketch to lightly carve out the image of the truffula trees which appear in white. finally we fired the pieces, painted them with clear glaze, then fired them once more to give them a smooth, shiny appearance. 2. my piece was successful in that it has a good ratio of negative and positive space, however next time i would like to pay more attention to the details so the lines don't come out as rugged. Artist: Shieh Cheh Huang, Taiwan, he uses plastic tentacles, LED lights, glowing liquids, and mechanical features
Website: http://www.messymix.com/ His work inspires me because it's unique and different. I like the colors and how it moves. I like that he incorporates different details and uses different materials. 1. at first my paper sculpture started off with lots of twisted strands which i would make by tearing pieces of the original paper and then gluing them to a base structure in the middle. however, i realized that this strategy did not allow for much variation in the visual appearance of the piece. Towards the end of the sculpting process, i used many techniques such as folding and braiding the different pieces of paper.
2. i found it most difficult to include all pieces of the original piece of paper in the final 3-D sculpture. 3. i think that the variation in texture and of the individual strands of paper were the most successful aspects of the project.
1. in paper mache, you make a base out of the generalized that you want your finished product to be. then, you use a flour and water mixture which you dip strips of paper in to form a shell around the outside of the base, paying attention to details.
2. I think that the mustache was successful even though it gave me some difficulties in the beginning phases due to the fact that i had to pay very close attention to the details of the individual hairs. 3. the most difficult aspect of this piece was getting the base shape correct, originally i tried using just one balloon to create his peanut like form but due to the inflexibility of the balloon |
